Chicago Cubs Lineup (8/8/22): Thompson Pitching, Morel at Third, Wisdom at First
The Chicago Cubs (43-64) are entering a relatively easy part of their schedule before things get much more difficult beginning with a series against the Milwaukee Brewers on August 19. The Cubs played well enough over the weekend against the surging Marlins to earn a series win, although their offense only managed to score six runs. That should change in this series against the Washington Nationals (Series Preview).
Keegan Thompson (8-5, 3.48 ERA) has been a nice surprise for the Cubs so far this season. In fact, he’s the only starter for the Cubs with a winning record. In two of his last three outings Thompson hasn’t made it past the 5th inning, giving up five earned runs in each of those games. He’s only given up that many runs on one other occasion this season, and this is the most innings he’s pitched in a season so far in his pro career. Make of that what you will, but let’s hope he’s able to hold it together down the stretch.
Rafael Ortega leads off tonight playing center, Willson Contreras is catching, Ian Happ is in left, Seiya Suzuki is in right, and Patrick Wisdom is at first. Nico Hoerner is at short, Nelson Velázquez is DH, Nick Madrigal is at second, and Christopher Morel is at third.
First pitch is scheduled for7:05pm CT from beautiful, historic Wrigley Field. The game will be broadcast on Marquee Sports Network and 670 The Score.
