Cubs Quick Hits: Willson Contreras Has One of The Fastest Home-To-First Times in MLB
We know Willson Contreras throws rockets to first base, but he also runs like one, too. The Venezuelan’s home-to-first time average (top three times are averaged) is 4.03 seconds, which ranks best among all MLB catchers and good for 35th — that’s the top 9 percent — in all of MLB.
Contreras is obviously athletic, but I had no idea how his speed compared to the rest of the league. It’s sort of astonishing that 91 percent of big leaguers are slower. And the Cubs’ starting catcher is actually faster than last year by 0.06 seconds.
