Cubs Announce Wild Card Roster, Which Includes Ildemaro Vargas and Josh Phegley
The Cubs officially announced their roster for the Wild Card round, which features infielder Ildemaro Vargas and catcher Josh Phegley. Lefty Josh Osich was designated for assignment in order to make room for Phegley on the 40-man. Relievers Brailyn Marquez and Duane Underwood Jr. were left off the active roster in order to accommodate Phegley and Vargas, so the Cubs are going with only 13 pitchers.
That’s not really surprising given the abbreviated nature of the series and the expectation that the Cubs can get length out of at least two starters. Even if there are hiccups, they’ve got Alec Mills, Adbert Alzolay, and Jose Quintana to carry multiple innings.
