Chicago Cubs Score and Recap (9/27/26): Cubs 6, Red Sox 2 – Two Bregman Bombs in Finale
The Cubs won a completely inconsequential final game of the regular season against the Red Sox at a neutral location in Tampa Sunday afternoon. There was some very good news for the road team as Alex Bregman went off with a pair of homers and four RBI, showing no ill effects from his facial fractures.
Shōta Imanaga went exactly one inning before coming out, giving up a solo home run and striking out three. Bregman blasted a two-run homer in the top of the 1st and a solo shot in the 3rd to put Chicago ahead 3-2.
The North Siders called up Braxton Garrett from Iowa to pitch a majority of the game and he did a decent job, allowing only one run in five frames. They would score three more in the top of the 9th with a pair of doubles by Bregman and Michael Conforto and went on to win by a final of 6-2. (Box score)

The Cubs made it through the game without losing anyone to injury or using much of the bullpen, which was the goal.
Why the Cubs Won
They hit for power after not doing much of that recently.

- Bregman got on base five times with four hits and a walk.

Bottom Line
The only thing that mattered for the Cubs in this game was the fact that Bregman appears to be ready to go for the playoffs. He makes a massive difference when he is in the middle of the lineup. Though the Cubs certainly did not have a very pretty finish to the regular season, that doesn’t matter at this point. It’s time to find out if they have any magic up their sleeve.
