Justin Steele to Begin Rehab Assignment Wednesday

It’s been almost 17 months since Justin Steele last threw a pitch in a live game, but that will change when he joins the Iowa Cubs on Wednesday to begin his rehab assignment. That news came from Marquee’s Taylor McGregor, who broke it during Monday’s game against the Brewers. There’s no word yet on how many outings the Cubs will need to see before being confident that Steele can return to the bigs, but we know he won’t be able to stretch out as a starter.

The Cubs will not be taking too many chances with Steele after he already suffered one setback in his rehab, but his limited usage does provide a little more leeway. We’ll have more on this once we’ve got more details on the tentative plan for his usage.
