Cubs Add Ryan Zeferjahn, DFA Jake Woodford

The Cubs added two new acquisitions on Tuesday, with outfielder Tyrone Taylor and right-handed reliever Ryan Zeferjahn joining the active roster. We already covered how the former displaced Kevin Alcantara and will platoon in left with Ian Happ. Zeferjahn’s addition to the bullpen is a huge improvement over the guys Craig Counsell has been forced to use at all, let alone in high-leverage situations.

Though his walk rate is a little high, he’s a stuff monster who can get the whiffs this bullpen has been lacking. See the press release below for (very little) more.

The Chicago Cubs today activated outfielder Tyrone Taylor and right-handed pitcher Ryan Zeferjahn. In corresponding moves, outfielder Kevin Alcántara was optioned to Triple-A Iowa and right-handed pitcher Jake Woodford was designated for assignment.

Taylor (#55) and Zeferjahn (#56) were acquired ahead of yesterday’s trade deadline.

The Cubs play the Los Angeles Dodgers tonight at 7:05 p.m. at Wrigley Field in a game that can be seen on Marquee Sports Network and heard on 104.3 the Score and, in Spanish, on TUDN 106.7.
