Cubs Place Gavin Hollowell on IL, Promote Antoine Kelly
I was a few weeks early on the idea of lefty Antoine Kelly earning a promotion, but the time has now come. After placing Gavin Hollowell on the IL with right shoulder inflammation, the Cubs have brought the hard-throwing Kelly to Chicago to help the bullpen.
Though he’s been with four other organizations in his career, Kelly has yet to make his MLB debut. Here’s to hoping it comes in mop-up duty with the Cubs holding a big lead.

The Chicago Cubs today recalled left-handed pitcher Antoine (ant-TWAHN) Kelly from Triple-A Iowa. He will wear #62. In a corresponding move, right-handed pitcher Gavin Hollowell has been placed on the 15-day injured list with right shoulder inflammation.
Kelly, 26, is 1-1 with a 2.79 ERA (6 ER/19.1 IP) with 22 strikeouts, compared to seven walks, and a .230 opponent average in 13 games with the I-Cubs since being acquired from the Dodgers on June 6 for cash considerations. Over 36 minor league games with Triple-A Oklahoma City and Iowa combined this season, he is 1-4 with a 4.02 ERA (18 ER/40.1 IP), 44 strikeouts and 26 walks.
The left-hander is 11-17 with 15 saves, a 4.66 ERA (167 ER/322.2 IP), 413 strikeouts, 207 walks and a 1.46 WHIP in 192 career minor league games, including 42 starts, in the Milwaukee (2019-22), Texas (2022-24), Colorado (2024-25), Los Angeles-N.L. (2026) and Cubs (2026) organizations. Kelly was selected to the 2022 Futures Game and following the 2023 season was named a Texas League Post-Season All-Star, a Baseball America Double-A All-Star and an MiLB.comOrganization All-Star.
A Chicago native, Kelly attended Maine East High School in Park Ridge. He was selected by Milwaukee in the second round of the 2019 draft out of Wabash Valley College (Mount Carmel, Ill.). He has yet to make his major league debut.
Hollowell, 28, has posted a 2.51 ERA (4 ER/14.1 IP) with one save, 13 strikeouts and eight walks in 14 games with the Cubs this season.
The Cubs play the New York Yankees today at 1:20 p.m.at Wrigley Field in a game that can be seen on Marquee Sports Network and heard on 104.3 the Score and, in Spanish, on TUDN 106.7.
