Cubs Select RHP Cade Townsend with No. 23 Overall Pick
The Cubs talked about being “less dogmatic” with their draft strategy as they look to improve the pitching throughout the organization. In keeping with that idea, they selected righty Cade Townsend from Mississippi with the No. 23 pick in the first round of the Draft. Townsend has a broad mix of secondaries and sits in the mid-90s with his fastball, so he profiles as a guy who can remain in a starting role.
They likely believe he can move relatively quickly through the minors, but we’ll know more about that when Dan Kantrovitz and Jed Hoyer address this pick specifically. More to come on Townsend and the Cubs’ strategy.
