Kevin Alcántara & Gavin Hollowell Arrive at Wrigley, Matt Shaw to IL

Outfielder Kevin Alcántara and righty reliever Gavin Hollowell arrived at Wrigley Field ahead of Monday’s game against the Padres, so personnel moves will be announced soon. Matt Shaw left Sunday’s game with wrist discomfort and is headed for the IL with a sprain, hence Alcántara’s presence. We can assume he’ll again be used sparingly against left-handed pitching.

Hollowell pitched three times in eight days before being optioned on June 25, so the quick turnaround means there’s yet another injury in the bullpen. Shocker, I know. After this was initially posted, the Cubs announced that Ethan Roberts has been placed on the IL with a right forearm strain.

There was a little buzz when Jaxon Wiggins was spotted in the area on Sunday evening, but the righty is just in town for a little checkup following two rehab starts for South Bend. Provided all is well, he should be headed back to Triple-A Iowa, where he last pitched on April 4 before being scratched with arm soreness that shut him down for over two months.
