Edward Cabrera Carted Away After Suffering Left Leg Injury

Edward Cabrera weathered an early rough patch to make it through five innings, but the last play might have been very costly. The pitcher hustled to first to get the out on a grounder to Nico Hoerner, then stretched awkwardly while making the play and came up hobbling. He was unable to put weight on his left leg and was eventually carted off the field.

My first thought was a pulled groin because of the way he did the splits, but the way he was limping around and keeping weight off the leg conjured fears of a blown ACL. After viewing another angle of the play in the video below, however, Cabrera appears to be grabbing at his groinal region immediately after doing the splits.

Regardless of the exact injury, there’s no way he’s avoiding an IL stint. Let’s just hope it’s not of the 60-day variety.

Update: The Cubs announced that it’s a left hamstring adductor strain, but there’s no word yet on the severity of the injury.
