Cubs Release ‘Champions Gate’ Rendering Ahead of July 18 Dedication

It was announced during Cubs Convention that the team would be adding a new monument to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the 2016 World Series champions. Rather than celebrating just one team or any individual players, however, they opted to acknowledge the 1907 and ’08 champs as well. Dubbed “Champions Gate,’ the monument will be unveiled at Gallagher Way on July 18.

The Cubs released a rendering of the gate on Monday, noting that it “honors the players and managers behind the franchise’s greatest achievements,” and “also creates space for the next generation of Cubs champions to be recognized.”

While I think it’s a pretty cool idea, it strikes me as a little underwhelming at first blush. Maybe I’ll change my mind when I see it in person.
