Chicago Cubs Lineup (6/5/26): Whatever, Just Don’t Lose Another Football Game
The only good thing about Friday’s lambasting was that it quickly turned so ugly that we could all laugh about it. After serving up seven home runs, two of which came with Carson Kelly on the mound, the Cubs now lead MLB with 95 homers allowed. For context, the Yankees lead all teams with 91 homers hit. The Cubs, meanwhile, have hit only 72.
Remember all that stuff about how this team was built to take advantage of Wrigley Field’s unique conditions? That turned out to be a bigger load of horseshit than the mess left by all the mounted police patrolling the ballpark during the World Series. I’m just glad I’ve got other baseball to watch this summer, because the Cubs are making it really hard to care about their outcomes right now.
Until such time as they provide me a reason to do so, I’m going to avoid detailed breakdowns here. It hasn’t mattered who’s starting for them or who they face lately anyway.

Giants starter Landen Roupp isn’t likely to help the Cubs close the home run gap, as he’s only surrendered three in 64 innings. The low-slot sinker specialist gets grounders and avoids hard contact with the best of them, and he uses his super-slurvy breaking ball for a fair number of strikeouts. I hate this matchup, which is why the Cubs will probably figure it out this afternoon.
First pitch is at 1:20pm CT on Marquee and The Score.
