Edward Cabrera Exits Early with Blister

Edward Cabrera made it through three innings with four runs allowed (one earned) on four hits and two walks, striking out two as well. Then he came out for the 4th and threw one fastball at 92.5 mph before leaving the game with Craig Counsell and athletic trainer Nick Frangella. Cabrera had been talking with pitching coach Tommy Hottovy and the training staff in the bottom of the 3rd, even heading back out of the dugout for a bit before going back out for the next frame.

Let’s hope it’s just a blister or something minor, because the Cubs can ill afford to lose yet another starting pitcher.

Update: It is indeed a blister issue on Cabrera’s right middle finger. Jim Deshaies had noted recently that teams will work on blisters or hot spot out of sight of the cameras, which led me to assume that’s what this was.
