Chicago Cubs Score and Recap (5/19/26): Brewers 5, Cubs 2 – Chicago Can’t Beat Miz

The Cubs’ struggles continued Tuesday night against the Brewers as they lost for the eighth time in the last 10 games. They fell behind early and a late rally that briefly excited the Wrigley Field faithful came up short as they fell out of first place.

Milwaukee grabbed the lead against Ben Brown in the top of the 1st on an RBI single by Garrett Mitchell. Chicago could do very little with ace Jacob Misiorowski, who put up six scoreless frames.

The Crew added two more runs in the top of the 3rd on a wild pitch and an RBI single from Jake Bauers. Brice Turang provided even more insurance with a two-run shot off of Trent Thornton that made the margin 5-0 in the top of the 8th.

The North Siders finally put something together in the bottom of the frame against reliever Aaron Ashby with run-scoring singles by Nico Hoerner and Seiya Suzuki that cut the deficit to 5-2. The Brewers limited the damage in that inning and gave up nothing in the 9th as they took the game and the series. (Box score)

Key Moment

The Cubs had bases loaded with two outs in the bottom of the 8th, but pinch-hitter Michael Conforto grounded out to second against reliever Chad Patrick to keep the score at 5-2.

Why the Cubs Lost

They fell behind early and could not dig themselves out for a second consecutive night.

Stats That Matter

  • Brown had to battle, but he was not the problem: 5 IP, 3 R, 7 H, 6 K, and 2 BB.
  • Hoerner got on base three times in this one.
  • Caleb Thielbar returned from the injured list and had a scoreless inning of relief.

Bottom Line

Absolutely nothing is going right for the Cubs right now, and it is costing them in the standings. The NL Central is going to be a hard fight in 2026, so they are going to have to play much better if they want to win.

On Deck

The Cubs try to avoid the sweep on Wednesday night at 6:40pm CT. Edward Cabrera goes up against Kyle Harrison in a contest airing on Marquee with a radio feed on The Score.
