Chicago Cubs Score and Recap (5/10/26): Rangers 3, Cubs 0 – Second Consecutive Shutout in Texas
The Cubs dropped their second game in less than 24 hours on Sunday afternoon. The Rangers pitching staff was dominant again, earning their second consecutive shutout to win the series.
Veteran ace Jacob deGrom was razor-sharp and gave up almost nothing in seven frames. Jameson Taillon did a very good job himself, allowing only a single run on a controversial RBI fielder’s choice by Alejandro Osuna in the bottom of the 4th.
Texas added insurance when Evan Carter hit a two-run homer off of Daniel Palencia in the bottom of the 8th. It turned out the extra runs weren’t even necessary as the North Siders went down quietly 3-0. (Box score)
Key Moment
The Cubs challenged the play at the plate in the bottom of the 4th. Michael Busch fired home from first base, and it appeared catcher Carson Kelly applied the tag to the leg of Josh Jung before he scored. However, the call on the field stood even after review and the Rangers were ahead 1-0.
Why the Cubs Lost
The offense did nothing for a second straight game.
Stats That Matter
- Taillon deserved a much better fate in this one: 5.1 IP, 1 R, 4 H, 4 K, and 2 BB.
- Nico Hoerner had two of the three hits for Chicago.
- Ian Happ had his consecutive on-base streak stopped with an 0-for-3 day.
Bottom Line
The Cubs got completely shut down by a Hall of Fame-level pitcher, which is just a thing that’s going to happen sometimes. This is just a case where you have to tip your hat to the other guy. That being said, everyone will probably feel a lot better if Chicago scores immediately in their next game after getting shut out two times in a row.
