Chicago Cubs Score and Recap (4/25/26): Dodgers 12, Cubs 4 – Blowout Loss Snaps Winning Streak

The Cubs’ winning streak finally came to an end at 10 on Saturday against the Dodgers. The home team got its powerful offense rolling in the middle innings and turned the game into a rout.

Chicago opened the scoring when Seiya Suzuki hit a solo home run off of Roki Sasaki in the top of the 2nd. Michael Busch extended the lead with an RBI single in the top of the 3rd to make it 2-0.

Los Angeles responded in the bottom of the frame when Max Muncy blasted a two-run homer against Colin Rea that tied things up. Moisés Ballesteros briefly put the North Siders back in front with a solo dinger in the top of the 4th, but that 3-2 advantage would not survive the inning.

Alex Freeland had an RBI double and then came home on a single by Freddie Freeman to give the Dodgers the lead and send Rea to the showers. Javier Assad took over in relief and it did not go well. Three consecutive singles with runners on base brought home four more to make it 8-3 entering the 5th.

Miguel Amaya hit the Cubs’ third solo homer of the night to cut the deficit to 8-4 in the top of the frame. Assad had more issues in the 6th, surrendering four more runs with the big blow coming on an Andy Pages two-run double. That would basically be the end of the action as Los Angeles was victorious by a margin of 12-4 (Box score)

Key Moment

Chicago loaded the bases with nobody out in the top of the 6th trailing 8-4. Dodgers lefty Jack Dreyer got a pair of strikeouts and right-handed reliever Will Klein got a groundout to escape the jam with no runs scoring.

Why the Cubs Lost

The pitching staff got lit up by a very good Dodgers lineup.

Stats That Matter

  • It was a grind for Rea: 3.1 IP, 6 R, 6 H, 4 K, and 4 BB.
  • Ballesteros also had a walk and is just a hitting machine.
  • Suzuki picked up three more hits and is suddenly on fire.

Bottom Line

All good things must come to an end, and the Cubs’ winning streak is over. It was a tremendous run that erased any bad taste from a mediocre start, but the Cubs still have a chance to win a series tomorrow. That would be an impressive accomplishment to start this West Coast trip.

On Deck
