Dylan Carlson Elects Free Agency
Outfielder Dylan Carlson, who was designated for assignment last week to make room for Seiya Suzuki, elected free agency after clearing waivers on Wednesday. A non-roster invitee to spring training, the former Cardinal made the roster largely due to Suzuki’s injury. He was hitless in four plate appearances with the Cubs and will now seek another opportunity.
Carlson was the 33rd overall pick by the Cardinals in 2016 out of Elk Grove High School in California, and he made his MLB debut in 2020. He posted strong numbers in his first full season with St. Louis the following year, but proceeded to trend downward from there and has accumulated -1.6 fWAR over the last three years.
