Chicago Cubs Score and Recap (3/15/26): Dodgers 14, Cubs 8 – Taillon Thumped at Sloan
The Cubs took on the Dodgers at a very hot Sloan Park on Sunday afternoon. Jameson Taillon returned to the mound after his stint in the WBC and got absolutely blasted in what became an easy victory for the road team.
Los Angeles exploded for four runs in the top of the 1st inning, with the big blow coming on a three-run homer by former Pirate Jack Suwinski. Taillon could not stop the bleeding and gave up six more tallies, including a solo homer from Mookie Betts in the 3rd.
Nico Hoerner got Chicago on the board with a two-run jack in the bottom of the frame, but they trailed 10-2 after four. Both squads had big 9th innings as the Dodgers were victorious 14-8. (Box score)
Key Moment
The game was effectively over after the big opening inning.
Why the Cubs Lost
The starting pitcher imploded and put his team in a massive hole.
Stats That Matter
- Taillon straight up did not have a good time, giving up 10 runs in just 3.1 innings.
- Hoerner had a walk in addition to the home run and made a nice diving catch at second base.
- Devin Ortiz hit a grand slam in the bottom of the 9th.
Bottom Line
Taillon is having a brutal spring training so far in 2026. He is a veteran, so the Cubs probably won’t put too much weight on his performance. The problem for him is that Chicago has a lot more options in the rotation than last year. The leash is probably going to be short if his struggles carry over to April.
On Deck
The Cubs take a trip to Goodyear for a contest against the Guardians on Monday night at 8:05pm CT. Cade Horton gets the start in a game that is available on MLB.TV.
