4 Cubs Featured on MLB Network’s Top 100 Players List

MLB Network released its list of the top 100 players in the sport, with the Chicago Cubs having four representatives.

Most teams had four players listed, with only five squads boasting five or more players in the top 100 rankings. The Dodgers led baseball with eight, which is no surprise. The Yankees have six, while the Mariners, Phillies, and Red Sox all came in with five players.

Alex Bregman, Pete Crow-Armstrong, Michael Busch, and Seiya Suzuki were the Cubs listed. By no means is this list, or any list for that matter, important when trying to value a player. However, with no baseball being played at the moment, it creates discussion among fans and analysts alike.

Bregman checks in at No. 35, the highest of any Cub. He posted a 125 wRC+ in 114 games with the Red Sox in 2025, with his .462 slugging percentage marking his best since 2017. It should come as no surprise that he ranks highest on the team. His reputation speaks for itself, and it highlights how significant of a signing it was for Jed Hoyer to bring another superstar to Wrigley Field.

Next up is Crow-Armstrong, listed just five spots lower at No. 40. If all goes well, he could crack the top 30 next year, but his rough second half clearly impacted the ranking. Nonetheless, the 23-year-old posted 5.4 fWAR across 157 games. He was durable all season, pairing Gold Glove defense with an explosive bat.

After a sizable gap, Busch comes in as the third Cub on the list at No. 67. He established himself as a premier first baseman during his sophomore season. His 140 wRC+ across 155 games ranked sixth in the National League and ninth in all of baseball. He likely had a case to be even higher.

Last but not least is Suzuki, who slugged 32 home runs in 151 games. His 103 RBIs were the fifth most in the National League. He crushed the ball all year, posting a 16.6% barrel rate, which ranked in the 95th percentile across baseball.

One egregious omission from the list is Nico Hoerner, who remains one of the most underrated players in the sport. Hoerner won a Gold Glove and finished just seven points shy of the National League batting title, which was won by Trea Turner with a .304 average. The absence of Hoerner’s name may be surprising, but it isn’t shocking. The media has long let him fly under the radar, likely because he doesn’t hit home runs like many of the game’s premier players.

Greg Huss also put together a spreadsheet showing the Cubs’ Top 100 players over the last decade, a visual that brings fans back to the championship roster. It serves as another reminder of how special those mid-2010s teams were. The 2022 and 2023 rankings were far less kind to the Cubs, but they also highlight just how far the organization has come in a short time.
