Six Cubs Listed as Gold Glove Finalists
The Cubs being a strong defensive team is no surprise, with their talents on display throughout the season. While there were a few miscues, the spectacular glovework continued into the playoffs. Now that the regular season is complete, it’s time to prepare for accolades to be handed out. First up: the Rawlings Gold Glove Award. On Wednesday morning, Rawlings announced six Cubs players as finalists.
First was Matthew Boyd, who led baseball with pickoffs and was a consistent presence on the mound in his bounce-back season after overcoming injuries.

Another newcomer received a nomination, as Carson Kelly is eligible for his first career award behind the plate.

Nico Hoerner was named the best defensive second baseman in the National League last season, and there’s a very good chance he takes home that award again. His 15 outs above average were in the 98th percentile across baseball.

A third newcomer to the Cubs, although this one’s a rookie, as Matt Shaw made his name known at the hot corner. No one is beating Ke’Bryan Hayes, but it’s nice to see Shaw get some recognition.

Much to the anguish of Cubs Twitter, Ian Happ is eligible for his fourth straight Gold Glove Award in left field. Maybe he isn’t the worst player in team history after all.

If you’re surprised to see Pete Crow-Armstrong be listed as a nominee in center field, you may be living under a rock. He broke out at the plate during the 2025 season, with more outstanding work in the outfield.

Interesting note: Dansby Swanson was NOT nominated for a Gold Glove this year. It’s the first time since 2021 that his name hasn’t been listed.
