Cubs DFA Nate Pearson, Activate and Option Eli Morgan
The Cubs made two roster moves earlier this week that flew under the radar. Amidst a crushing weekend in which they were swept by the Cincinnati Reds over a four-game series, the Cubs designated Nate Pearson for assignment. Pearson appeared in 11 games for the Cubs this season, posting a 9.20 ERA in 14.2 innings.
In a corresponding move, Eli Morgan was activated from the 60-day IL. He had already been rehabbing in Iowa, but will now be on the 40-man roster in case his services are needed before the season comes to an end.
Morgan has logged only 7.1 innings in seven appearances and hasn’t pitched in a major league game since April 14, when he allowed four runs to the Padres. Acquired this past winter from the Guardians, the changeup specialist has a 12.27 ERA with four strikeouts and three walks. He has looked much better with the I-Cubs, for what it’s worth.
