Kevin Alcántara Back at Wrigley as Owen Caissie Experiences Concussion Symptoms

Kevin Alcántara was optioned back to Triple-A on Saturday to accommodate Owen Caissie, but it looks like the lanky Jaguar didn’t get far. He was spotted prowling around the ballpark Sunday morning and could be recalled if Caissie is placed on the 7-day concussion IL. Caissie tumbled into the brick wall in right-center in the top of the 3rd after making a catch and getting tangled up with Pete Crow-Armstrong, but he remained in the game after taking a few moments to collect himself.

The rookie looked a bit off while bobbling a play in the top of the 4th, then struck out in the bottom of the frame. He was lifted for Willi Castro in the top of the 6th and Craig Counsell said after the game that Caissie was being evaluated for concussion symptoms. While it’s possible Alcántara’s presence is merely precautionary, an IL stint is likely given how seriously any head injuries are taken these days.

More to come…

Update: Caissie has indeed been placed on the 7-day IL and Alcántara has been recalled.
