Pete Crow-Armstrong Working to Stay Ahead of ‘Big Brother’ Seiya Suzuki
The Cubs came into Saturday’s game with four players boasting double-digit homers and left it with five, but the players at the top of their power tower did most of the damage. Seiya Suzuki opened and capped the scoring with a pair of solo shots, while Pete Crow-Armstrong tagged one of his own to maintain the club lead over the man who’s joked about being his big brother.
“Yeah, I let him know today that he had to hit two and I still got him,” Crow-Armstrong shared with reporters after the game. “I said any day that he hits a homer, I’m gonna have to do it as well. If that turns into real motivation, great, that’s awesome.”
The sluggers have a great dynamic that comes across as very much like a younger sibling tagging along at his older brother’s heels. That’s different from PCA and Justin Turner, which feels like a kid hanging around his cool uncle. Crow-Armstrong has been seen ball-tapping Suzuki in the victory line this season, and the two seem to be tapping into one another’s playful sides.
“Everything that Pete does is like a little kid, so he feels like Pete is like his little brother,” Suzuki told media members through his interpreter while making a gesture to reinforce that PCA is smaller.

“No, that’s up for debate,” Crow-Armstrong joked in response. “We can work that one out behind closed doors.”
While no one will argue that chemistry is the driving force of this team, it’s evident that the clubhouse dynamics are part and parcel of the success they’ve experienced. Rather than chicken-or-egg this thing to death, let’s just enjoy the wins and the fact that the players are enjoying being around one another. That isn’t to say other baseball teams, even bad ones, don’t find their own ways of having fun over the long slog of the season, but this Cubs team has a different vibe than others in recent memory.
There’s just so much to smile about, whether it’s PCA and Suzuki goofing around with the media or putting on a show for the fans on a nightly basis. From mooshots to nut shots, these two are leading the way for a team that just keeps winning.
