Scoring Change Removes 2 Earned Runs from Cade Horton’s Record
Cade Horton recently made the fourth start and fifth appearance of his MLB career, all of which have resulted in Cubs wins. The rookie has yet to allow more than three runs in a game, including this past Tuesday when he got the win by going 5.1 innings against the Nationals with three earned runs* on six hits and a walk. Except that he actually only allowed one earned.
What was originally ruled a double for Daylen Lile in the bottom of the 3rd has been switched to an error on Michael Busch. That doesn’t stop two subsequent runs from scoring, but it does take Horton off the hook for allowing them. As such, his ERA goes from 4.21 to 3.51 over 25.2 innings so far.

Pretty big swing for one play. These scoring changes can mean serious money for pitchers in particular, especially those who are up for arbitration or looking to get a sweet deal in free agency. Horton won’t need to worry about that for a while yet, but it’s still good to see him getting the benefit of this change.
