Quantifying Hope: Cubs Over 84% Postseason Odds as May Comes to Close

This one is going to be super brief because the site has been having issues all day and I’m pressed for time as it is. My kids just finished up their last day of school, which means my daughter is officially done with high school, and my son is on the bump in his first travel game of the season tonight. I’m far more amped for that than the Cubs game, though having the Reds in town should make for some good baseball.

That was the case when the Cubs visited Cincinnati recently, though none of the three contests started out well. The Cubs fell behind in each game, managing to win two thanks to incredible late comebacks. Their series against the Rockies was much more subdued and aesthetically displeasing, but a sweep is still a sweep even against an awful opponent.

The Cubs are 16-8 so far in May, putting them 14 games over .500 on the season, and they’re 5-2 against the NL Central in that time. Continuing to stack wins is really important right now because they’ve got six games on the road against the Tigers and Phillies in early June. It’ll still be more than three weeks before they have to face the Cardinals, the only team in the division within 6.5 games of first, which is an incredibly stupid facet of this balanced schedule.

Have I mentioned that before? Sorry.

Aaaaand, my space bar just stopped working. It might not seem that way to you since you’re seeing spaces, but I’m having to type this in the code window in order to use the key. Wow, fun times. Anyway, the Cubs are well out in front of the division and have a chance to run away and hide with a strong June.

Just like that, the space bar is working again. Oh, the joys of operating a website. Anywho, it’s becoming clearer by the day that Jed Hoyer is going to need to pursue rotation help in a big way at the deadline. With Matt Shaw looking like the goods at third base and the bullpen holding steady, the Cubs’ collection of starters appears to be their biggest impediment to making a serious playoff run.

We might even get some news on that front a little earlier than usual, as Hoyer might want to jump the market to an extent. That’s all for now, have a great weekend.
