New Pope Leo XIV Reportedly a Cubs Fan…Or Not

It’s always a good day when you are no longer a Cardinal, and that goes double for Robert Francis Prevost of Chicago. Now known as Pope Leo XIV — the first pope from the US — following a two-day conclave, the pontiff is apparently a Cubs fan. Perhaps he can put in a good word for the health of the pitching staff for the rest of the season.

The next burning question is whether he orders his Italian beef baptized.

Update: ABC News apparently got it wrong.

“He was never, ever a Cubs fan,” John Prevost, the pope’s brother, told WGN. “So I don’t know where that came from. He was always a Sox fan.”

Maybe he converted recently and just didn’t want to tell anyone.
