Cubs High 5: Shutouts, Multi-Homer Games, Run Producers

I’ve only got about 30 minutes before heading out to see Sinners with my kids. Nothing like an R-rated vampire movie to bring the family together, right? Then I need to get the yard mowed before we get more rain, plus my son has a live bullpen/workout session in the evening. That all means microwaving a quick article for you to eat on the go.

The Cubs are looking good and they’re doing it with a more balanced attack that features strong pitching to go with superb offense. Let’s give them a high five, as that’s the number we’re focused on today.

It took the Cubs until July 7 last season to author five shutouts, but their demolition of the Brewers Friday night got them to that mark just 33 games into the 2025 campaign. They only had three dingers in their 10-run outburst, but they’ve hit four or more on five occasions already. That’s as many four-plus homer games as they had all of last season.

With his grand slam in the series opener, Michael Busch got to 22 runs batted in on the season so far. That tied him with Carson Kelly and gave the Cubs five players with 20 or more RBI: Busch, Kelly, Pete Crow-Armstrong (23), Seiya Suzuki, and Kyle Tucker (29 for both). The Cubs lead MLB with 198 RBI, which is all the more impressive when they’ve got an MLB-best 202 total runs. That’s the smallest delta among any of the top 23 teams in runs scored.
