Cubs Acquire Drew Pomeranz From Mariners, Demote Wicks to AAA Iowa
The Cubs are acquiring Drew Pomeranz from the Mariners, Ken Rosenthal reported on Monday. Pomeranz hasn’t appeared in the majors since 2021, when he pitched for the San Diego Padres.
Cubs acquiring left-hander Drew Pomeranz from Mariners, sources tell @TheAthletic. Pomeranz, 36, had been pitching at Triple A – 14 strikeouts, 6 walks and a 4.66 ERA in 9 2/3 innings.

Pomeranz has pitched 9.2 innings for the Rainiers, Seattle’s Triple-A team based in Tacoma, Washington. He has posted a 4.66 ERA, striking out 14 and earning two saves.
In a corresponding move, Jordan Wicks has been optioned to Triple-A Iowa. He pitched just two innings for the Cubs, allowing three earned runs. This likely won’t be the last we see of Wicks this season, as he remains a solid depth option should more injuries arise.
Update:
It turns out Pomeranz will not be placed on the major league roster, and will instead join the Iowa Cubs. With Wicks being demoted, the corresponding move has not yet been announced.
#Cubs make it official: they’ve acquired LHP Drew Pomeranz from the Mariners in exchange for cash considerations. Pomeranz will report to Iowa.
