Chicago Cubs Score and Recap (3/24/25): Braves 13, Cubs 4 – It’s a Spring Training Blowout, Folks
The Cubs welcomed the Braves to Sloan Park on Monday for the first of two games before MLB’s stateside opening day on Thursday. Atlanta’s powerful lineup erupted and scored double-digit runs, winning easily.
Chicago used at least one pitcher in every inning, giving their bullpen a warm-up before opening the season. Closer Ryan Pressly gave up a pair of runs in the 2nd inning, but Gage Workman was able to even the score on a two-run homer in the bottom of the frame.

A Marcell Ozuna RBI single and a wild pitch by Porter Hodge put Atlanta on top 4-2 in the 3rd inning. The road team blew the game wide-open in the 5th with Ryan Brasier on the mound. Matt Olson, Ozuna, and Ozzie Albies hit back-to-back-to-back home runs as part of a six-run rally that brought the score to 10-2.
Carson Kelly doubled home a pair for the Cubs in the 6th, the Braves would win 13-4.
Key Moment
Atlanta put the game on ice with their big rally in the 5th inning, demonstrating how dangerous their lineup still is.
Why the Cubs Lost
Home runs have been a big problem lately. Hopefully, it’s just a matter of working out the kinks in these final few games of the spring.
Stats That Matter
- Brad Keller had his velocity touching the upper 90’s in his clean inning of work.
- Kelly had a pair of hits on Monday and should be a big upgrade at the back up catching position.
- Seiya Suzuki doubled and walked in three plate appearances.
- This was the first exhibition game between the Braves and Cubs since April 1962.
Bottom Line
Not too much to take away from this other than Atlanta is an explosive team on offense. Chicago’s bullpen will need to be much better once the season gets started.
On Deck
