Cubs’ Tokyo Fun Includes Turner in Kimono, Imanaga Trolling Counsell, Suzuki Samurai Sword BP

The Cubs arrived in Japan after a long flight and immediately got to work having fun. Justin Turner wasted no time slipping into something more comfortable to ease his jet lag, modeling a traditional Yukata robe, a special gift presented to members of the traveling party. The best part of his IG post has to be Pete Crow-Armstrong‘s comment.

“I’m laughing on the bidet rn,” PCA typed, in case you can’t read it in the image.

Then there was the photo op with Shōta Imanaga and Craig Counsell participating in the breaking of the sake barrel, a Japanese tradition meant to bestow blessings. Not sure how that good fortune is impacted by the pitcher making fun of his manager’s batting stance, but we should find out soon enough.

It wasn’t all fun and games, however, as Seiya Suzuki made like Leonardo from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, displaying his skill with a bladed weapon. Those baseballs stood no chance. Ian Happ could never have done this because he doesn’t slice.

The Cubs have another day off Thursday before facing the Hanshin Tigers on Friday, after which they’ll take Saturday off ahead of an exhibition with the Yomiuri Giants. They’re off again Monday, then it’s the two-game set with the Dodgers before heading back to Mesa for five games to finish off the Cactus League.
