Michael Arias Traded to Yankees for Cash Considerations

The Cubs have traded pitching prospect Michael Arias to the Yankees, according to an official announcement from the Yankees. Arias was designated for assignment on Monday to clear room on the 40-man, allowing the Colin Rea signing to be made official. It’s a great acquisition for the Yankees, who have the 40-man space take a flier on a promising young arm.

CI’s Evan Altman mentioned on Monday that Arias could be traded for some international free agency pool money, but the Cubs just get regular old cash considerations instead. One of the most popular trade chips ever! The international signings still aren’t official, but we should get news on them soon. Until then, we will probably be waiting on the Sasaki news before the offseason picks up again.
