Kyle Tucker Says He’s ‘Always Open’ to Extension Talks

Hmm, so maybe everyone saying Kyle Tucker‘s agent was adamant that his client would not agree to an extension wasn’t entirely correct. Shocker. No competent representative would go around signaling a desire to do a team-friendly deal prior to or immediately following his player’s acquisition. Nor would a player immediately shut down the possibility of negotiating a new deal upon joining his new team.

The new Cubs right fielder addressed that topic during a Monday conference call with local media, saying he’s willing to listen if the Cubs want to talk.

“Like I’ve always said, I’m always open to talks and see where that leads,” Tucker said. “Always open to that, you never know what the future’s gonna hold, but in terms of that, just see how things progress throughout the next however long and see where it leads us. But, like I said, I’m always open for talks or negotiations and just kinda seeing where that leads.

“But, definitely, Chicago’s a great city to play in. Great city just in general, so I’m open for anything.”

Again, this isn’t the least bit shocking or revelatory given the situation. Tucker seems like a very low-key dude, which makes sense given the way he’s pretty much flown under the radar even on his own team despite being one of the best hitters in MLB over the last five seasons. He is just sticking to his safe talking points here and it’s not like he’s going to agree to a club-friendly offer, but the word about him being unwilling to extend seems like speculation that got taken as fact and then fabricated on a larger scale.
