Chicago Cubs Score and Recap (8/24/24): Cubs 14, Marlins 2: Blowout Gets North Siders Back to Even

After winning the series opener behind a trio of homers, the Cubs played longball again Saturday afternoon in Miami to get back to the .500 mark. Seiya Suzuki got the party started with a solo shot  in the 1st, then added a two-run job two innings later to give the Cubs a 3-0 advantage.

The Marlins tightened the score with a Connor Norby dong in the 4th, but things quickly got out of hand after that. Pete Crow-Armstrong blasted his second homer is as many days, this one a 437-foot blast that awed Vergil Patrick Hughes and allowed the speedy outfielder to trot a little slower than his 14-second ITPHR yesterday.

Another Marlins solo homer was quickly erased by a Michael Busch RBI double and a Suzuki RBI triple, then a Cody Bellinger two-bagger played another run. The Cubs were not done there, as they tacked on four more runs with an automatic double from PCA factoring in the lopsided 14-2 score.

They scored 14 runs.

Stats That Matter

• Suzuki collected 11 total bases.
• PCA had the two big knocks and is the Cubs’ hottest hitter over the last few weeks.
• Miguel Amaya had a double and two singles as he challenges the No. 8 hitter for best on the team of late.

Bottom Line

The Cubs are in do-or-die territory and they ain’t dying. PCA is going to be a very serious problem for opponents moving forward. The swagger is well deserved and he’s going to be a massive TL fan favorite for years to come.
