Quick Cubs Updates: PCA Goes Yard, Javy Crushing on South Side, Several Rehab Notes
I’ve been tied up with youth baseball action this weekend, so what follows will be a very brief column (you’re welcome) featuring mostly tweets and other tidbits. First up is Pete Crow-Armstrong, who hit his 10th homer of the season leading off Sunday’s game for the South Bend Cubs. The power has been a very impressive revelation and makes it that much more possible that PCA can be a true impact player.

The man who was traded away (along with Trevor Williams) to get Crow-Armstrong has not been having as good a season. That’s starting to turn around back in Chicago, however, as Javier Báez continues to terrorize White Sox pitching.

Power has not been the name of the game for a former South Sider who came to the Cubs last year, as Nick Madrigal has had a rough go of it so far. He’s currently on a rehab stint with at Triple-A Iowa and singled in his first at-bat Sunday before being lifted. That was his third game with the I-Cubs, so it could mean he’s ready to head back to Chicago.
Nick Madrigal, who was the DH today for the @IowaCubs, is out of the game after one at-bat (single in the first).

Frank Schwindel was also in the I-Cubs lineup Sunday after going 1-for-4 with a single Saturday night. Daniel Norris was making an appearance on the mound as well, so there are plenty of future implications in that one.

One of the hottest hitters at Triple-A is Jackson Frazier, who singled in his first at-bat Sunday after smashing a grand slam Saturday evening. He has four homers and 15 in the last eight games and looks like he’s ready to get another crack at the big league roster, provided the Cubs can manage to find opportunities for him this time.

That should be pretty easy by August 2, when a few spots are likely going to open up.
Update: Madrigal is indeed heading back to Chicago, but it’s to get checked out after experiencing tightness in his groin during Sunday’s game.
