Chicago Cubs Lineup (3/22/22): Hoerner Bats Second, Caissie in Right, Hendricks Makes Second Spring Start
Kyle Hendricks will be on the mound for the second time this spring as the Cubs face the Mariners at Peoria Stadium and we can expect him to log more than two innings in this one. His changeup looked sharp in the early going during his first appearance as he struck out two, but three hits resulted in a run and he was lifted before we really got a chance to see him work.
Backing Hendricks this afternoon will be Rafael Ortega leading off in center, Nico Hoerner at short, and Yan Gomes behind the plate. Gomes has gotten quite a few starts thus far, which feels like more than just a function of funky spring lineups. Clint Frazier cleans up in left as he continues to make a case for significant playing time.
Alfonso Rivas bats fifth at first base, Ildemaro Vargas is the second baseman, Dixon Machado is at third, and Michael Hermosillo is the DH. Hard-hitting Own Caissie rounds out the order in right and gives the Cubs two gingers in the lineup. David Ross would have added James Triantos, but MLB has a rule against having three redheads in at once.
First pitch is slated for 3:10pm CT and can be seen on Marquee Sports Network.
