Chicago Cubs Lineup (6/6/21): Rizzo Leads Off, Hendricks Starting
Anthony Rizzo leads off at first base, Kris Bryant bats second in left, and Ian Happ is in center batting third. Javy Báez is at short, Jason Heyward is in right, Patrick Wisdom is at third, Eric Sogard is at second, and PJ Higgins is the catcher.
Kyle Hendricks is on the mound and he’ll need to be at his best in order for the Cubs to escape San Francisco with a win. The ace has been much better after a slow start, but he’s still shown a propensity for allowing homers. He’s been able to get away with it because they’re mainly solo shots, now the offense just needs to make sure he doesn’t have to be perfect.
Johnny Cueto will be trying to anchor the sweep with his arsenal of junk and deception, mixing timing to keep hitters guessing. It’s working as well as ever this season, with the 35-year-old righty posting a 3.45 ERA and avoiding barrels. His 3.3% walk rate is easily the lowest of his career and he’s giving up fewer homers than ever, so he’s giving opposing hitters almost no mistakes to attack.
He does allow a lot of contact, though, so the Cubs could put something together without having to leave the yard. That’s exactly what got them started on the streak of good play that started in May, so this could be a good time for them to get back on track.
First pitch is at 3:05pm CT on Marquee Sports Network and 670 The Score.
