Cubs 1B Coach Craig Driver Tests Postive for COVID, No Close Contacts on Team

Cubs first base coach Craig Driver did not travel with the team to Pittsburgh because he was feeling under the weather and it was announced Saturday that he has tested positive for COVID-19. Contact tracing revealed no close contacts among the Cubs’ traveling party and all testing from the previous three days came back negative, so no one else will have to be quarantined.

Hey, maybe all that offensive futility against Milwaukee was a good thing after all.

Driver is in his second season with the Cubs and he serves as their catching coordinator in addition to his first base duties. Quality assurance coach Mike Napoli took over at first for Thursday’s game and will likely continue in that role until Driver is able to return.

If the existing scientific evidence and pitching coach Tommy Hottovy’s struggle with COVID-19 last year weren’t enough to push the Cubs to get vaccinated, perhaps this will help.
