Chicago Cubs Lineup (3/9/10): Happ Leads Off, Williams Makes Second Spring Start
Ian Happ leads off in center as the Cubs continue Cactus League action Tuesday afternoon against the A’s. He’ll be followed by Willson Contreras behind the plate, Joc Pederson in left, Jason Heyward in right, and David Bote at third. Eric Sogard sees action at second base, Ildemaro Vargas is at short, Nick Martini is the DH, and Matt Duffy handles first base.
Trevor Williams takes the mound for the second time this spring as he looks to solidify a spot in the rotation on the strength of improved mechanics. The former Pirate has been tinkering with different slider grips in camp to get a little more horizontal sweep in addition to the vertical movement he’s generated in the past. His breaking pitches worked well in his first outing against the Dodgers and we can safely assume he’ll be working on that aspect of his game again this afternoon.
Following Williams in some order will be Craig Kimbrel, Jonathan Holder, Jake Jewell, Dillon Maples, and Michael Rucker.
First pitch from Sloan Park is set for 2:05pm CT and can be seen on Marquee Sports Network.
