Cubs Trade Rumors: Padres ‘Have Accepted the Haul’ Needed to Land Yu Darvish

What started as a small blurb has quickly turned into a trade that may be finalized soon, as Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune now says the framework for Yu Davish trade is all but done. The two teams are nearing an agreement and the Padres “have accepted the haul they will have to send to the Cubs,” which is the most important part here.

Acee did not mention any other players by name and did not indicate that the Cubs would be including a catcher in the deal, so we’ll have to wait and see on that. It does appear very likely that second baseman Jake Cronenworth is involved, though, since the Padres just landed Korean star Ha-Seong Kim and are expected to play him at second.

Earlier reports were that the Pads could move the incumbent to the outfield, but Acee coyly tweeted that Cronenworth would not be doing so. At the risk of reading too much into that, it sounds like he’ll actually be moving to a new city.

More on this developing situation as it becomes available.
