Cubs Quick Hits: Jose Quintana Gives Cubs Second-Best Start of Year
It didn’t take long for Jose Quintana to make his mark on the defending World Series champions. In his debut, the 28-year-old lefty went seven innings and struck out 12 batters without surrendering any walks.
The totality of his work led to a game score of 88 which was, this year, the second highest score next to Jon Lester’s 93 in a complete-game effort against the Giants in late May. Outside of actually going the distance, Quintana’s performance was pretty much the ideal outcome. I keep having to pinch myself thinking that he’ll join a rotation headed by Kyle Hendricks and Jon Lester for a guaranteed three-and-a-half more seasons.
