Cubs Trade Miguel Montero to Blue Jays for Cash
Hey, Randy Moss, what did the Cubs get for Miguel Montero?
It’s not enough to inspire a Dire Straights song, but the Cubs did sort of get money for nothing in return for their DFA’d malcontent. The catcher was traded to the Blue Jays Monday in exchange for a player to be named later or cash considerations.

So it looks like the Cubs are eating some of Montero’s remaining salary, which makes sense. And I like the move for Cash Considerations, an up-and-coming prospect who’s still flying under the radar. Depending on the exchange rate at the time the deal is fully consummated, he could be even more valuable.
In all seriousness, this is one of those moves that’s better than just letting a guy go and getting back zero in return. Montero had obviously worn out his welcome, but I’m sure he’ll be given a warm reception when he returns to Wrigley with the Jays from August 18-20.
Heck, he’ll probably hit a dinger because Cubes.
