Chicago Cubs Lineup: Javy Baez Bats Leadoff, Happ in Left Field, Almora in Center
It’s never fun losing two games in a row and it’s even less fun doing so while scoring no runs. Add to that the prospect of trying to end said two-game scoreless streak against the likes of one Clayton Kershaw, and we’ve got ourselves a real pickle here.
Never fear, it’s Jon Lester to the rescue.
Lester has been the Cubs best pitcher to start the year and certainly their most consistent. He’s won two straight appearances including a 10 strikeout gem in his latest outing, a complete game domination of the San Francisco Giants. He allowed only one run in that game in a three-hit fifth inning. Of course, if the Cubs can’t get their offense rolling today against the best pitcher in the universe, one run may be enough for the Dodgers.
Joe Maddon has gone with two vastly different lineups in the first two games of this series but both have yielded similarly underwhelming results. The Cubs have managed a combined five hits with no extra base hits in the first two games.
As you’d expect against the lefty Kershaw, we’re seeing a decidedly righty weighted lineup today and that means no Kyle Schwarber. Leading off is Javy Baez, who’s only played one game in the leadoff position in 2017. He’ll be backed by Kris Bryant, Anthony Rizzo and Ian Happ, who’s batting cleanup for the sixth time since his MLB debut on May 13, 2017.
