The Myrtle Beach Pelicans Just Gave You a Great Excuse to Plan a Weekend Getaway
If the rain across the Midwest has got you down and you’ve been thinking about putting together a little weekend getaway, the Myrtle Beach Pelicans have got you covered. As though the Grand Strand itself isn’t enough to lure you in, the opportunity to see Eloy Jimenez and other rising prospects is a pretty nice sweetener. Still not convinced? Okay, there’s more.
The Pelicans will be holding a Cubs-a-Palooza weekend June 23-25 that will include an appearance by the World Series trophy, along with former Cubs Andre Dawson and Bill Buckner. They’ve even got a little something for those of you who dig funky tchotchkes and postgame fireworks.
Here’s a little more from the Pelicans’ site:
The World Series Trophy, also known as the Commissioner’s Trophy, kicks off the Pelicans’ Cubs-A-Palooza weekend from June 23-25. On Friday, the first 500 fans in line will receive a wristband and will have the opportunity to view and take their photo with the trophy. Additional fans will be able to see the trophy if time allows. Gates for Friday’s game will open at 6 p.m. and the trophy line will open at approximately 7 p.m. In addition, Major League Hall of Famer Andre Dawson, a former Chicago Cub, will be on hand Friday to sign autographs from 7:30-9 p.m. (no bats or jerseys).
Cubs-A-Palooza weekend continues with Saturday’s 7:05 p.m. game. Cubs legend Bill Buckner will sign autographs from 7:30-9 p.m. (no bat bats or jerseys). Gates open at 5 p.m. for Sunday’s 6:05 p.m. game, and the first 1,000 fans inside the ballpark will receive a Joe Maddon Groovy Bandana as the Pelicans celebrate Cubstock – Woodstock with a Cubs twist. All fans can enjoy a postgame fireworks extravaganza, presented by East Coast Pyrotechnic Fireworks, after the games on both Saturday and Sunday.
They’re currently running a limited offer for a $100 package that provides a ticket for all three days, VIP wristband that will guarantee a picture with the World Series Trophy, entrance into the Q&A sessions with Hawk and Buck, and autographed photo of both players. Sounds like a decent deal.
Even if you can’t make it down for this particular weekend, you really should get down to Myrtle Beach to see the Pelicans play. Heck, you should get to any or all of the Cubs’ affiliates at some point. I just have a special affinity for the Pelicans because I’ve gotten to know the staff there and they do an amazing job of operating that team and putting the fans first. Make sure to tell them I sent you and have a beer for me when you go.
