Chicago Cubs Lineup: Schwarber Sits, Zobrist Leading Off, Almora Batting Sixth
The next two games for the Cubs will be available for your viewing pleasure on the national primetime stage so you may need to mentally prepare yourselves for hearing announcers you’re not used to hearing talk about the Cubs. It can be an interesting experience sometimes, as we all learned during the Cubs 2016 postseason run but, hey, we’ve always got Pat and Ron, right?
Today’s game will pit Brett Anderson (2-1, 6.23 ERA) up against Yankees left-hander Jordan Montgomery (1-1, 4.15 ERA). His last time out (recap here), this past Monday against the Phillies, Anderson could only make it through 1 1/3 innings before getting pulled from the game on a blustery night. To make light of his sub-par outing, after the game Brett Anderson cleverly tweeted this out.

It’s good to see Brett have fun with what was really just an awful outing but, all joking aside, he’s surrendered 20 runs over his last three starts. He’s going to have to be much better than that today to get past this Yankees lineup. If he’s not, we could see another early hook from Joe which would lead to another long day for the bullpen right when they could use some rest. Of course, Felix Pena was recalled from Triple-A yesterday so he could be able to eat up a couple innings if needed.
With a lefty on the hill for the Yanks we’re seeing predominantly right-handed bats in the lineup today for the Cubs. Kyle Schwarber is noticeably absent today at the top of the lineup. Schwarber hasn’t had a multi-hit game since April 24th and hasn’t had more than two hits in any game so far this year. He did have a home run yesterday, which is always good to see, so perhaps that and some rest today will be the catalyst needed to get his bat going.
It’s a great day to bounce back.
