Watch: Albert Almora’s Incredible Highlight Reel
There is a third outfield position, in the midst of that which is known to man. It is a position as vast as Minute Maid Park and as timeless as Rob Manfred’s ideal game. It is the middle ground between right and left field, between science and superstition, and it lies between the lip of man’s grass and the summit of his walls. This is the dimension of fascination. It is an area which we call The Highlight Zone.
That someone could make the plays in the reel below is impressive, that Albert Almora was able to pack this many Web Gems into only 54 games (plus a few spring contests) is downright amazing. So stellar is Almora’s glove that he actually leads the Cubs in fWAR (0.3) and rWAR (0.6) despite having accumulated only 16 plate appearances this season.
Beauty is most definitely in the eye of the beholder in this case. And I’m talking every eye of every beholder.
