Chicago Cubs Lineup: Schwarber Leading Off, Heyward in CF, Javy Batting Ninth
Opening Night is almost here and the Cubs will start their title defense with a slightly unorthodox lineup. Then again, given all the pieces Joe Maddon has to shuffle around, is there even such a thing as orthodox?
Kyle Schwarber, Kris Bryant, and Anthony Rizzo are all in their familiar spots, though Ben Zobrist is manning right tonight. RBI machine Addison Russell is batting fifth, then you’ve got Jason Heyward playing center. Willson Contreras makes for a potent slice of bread in the Jon Lester sandwich that sees Javy Baez providing the other bun.
I’m having trouble typing this out, my brain running in several different directions, none of which seem to involve my fine motor skills. Here’s to hoping the game goes a little better than Lester’s last season opener against the Cardinals. You know, the one that saw people forced to pee in cups?
Man, that April night in 2015 feels like eons ago. Enjoy it, folks, we’re gonna be in for another incredible season.
