Daily Cubs Clip Fix: Stiff Wind Keeps Cubs at Bay, Zastryzny Exits Early With Bruised Calf

The Cubs didn’t have much offense today, but they certainly had their share of hard-hit balls. A majority of the scorchers ended up either getting knocked down by the stiff wind or in the glove of a leaping Reds player. It was one of those days. Shift the wind out, or just eliminate it altogether, and Eloy Jimenez likely would have had himself a grand slam in the top of the 7th inning.

And yes, the lady behind me was very enthusiastic (or drunk, I couldn’t tell).

Meanwhile, Rob Zastryzny was cruising along until he took a sharp line drive off his right calf in the bottom of the 3rd inning. He stuck around for a couple more batters but was then pulled by Joe Maddon and replaced by Miguel Mejia, who promptly gave up a triple that scored two inherited runners to give the Reds a 2-0 lead. Early reports are that Zastryzny will have a nice bruise but is otherwise no worse for the wear.

Cubs relievers gave up eight hits, four of those came off Felix Pena in the bottom of the 8th inning, leading to two runs.

The Cubs drop this one, but hey, it was still a good day (CI Recap).
