01/18/2017 – Cubs Quick Hits: Carl Edwards Jr’s Unique Four Seamer
During the Cubs Convention, VP Jason McLeod joked that everyone in the audience was probably stronger than noted stringbean Carl Edwards Jr. (he was, of course, taking an all-in-good fun jab at the pitcher while touting fellow wiry hurler Dylan Cease). Yet, despite the ultra-ectomorph body type, Edwards’ four-seam fastball is no joke:
- Using swinging-strike rate and grounder rate, his four-seamer was the most effective right-handed four seamer in MLB.
- His four-seamer has more cutting action than 99.5% of MLB righties.
- No matter where he throws four seamers, hitters can’t hit ’em:
