Watch: Kris Bryant Blasts Home Run Off Chris Sale in ASG

(Kris) Bryant is an easy out if you pitch him properly. He can’t hit good pitching. Bryant swings with one of the more vicious uppercuts we’ve seen since Mike Tyson. Nobody would ever teach someone to hit that way. And the best pitchers in baseball will find a way to exploit that, which brings into the question that very fine line between good and great.

That’s what Tony Massarotti wrote about the NL leader in home runs, runs, and WAR just a couple weeks ago. So it figured that Bryant would fall prey to AL starting pitcher Chris Sale when the two squared off with two outs in the 1st inning of the All-Star Game. In fact, Bryant was so adamant about the proper spelling of their homophonous names that he had gone 0-for-6 with 6 K’s vs. the White Sox ace.

There would be no strikeout in (unofficial) at-bat number seven though. The stringbean slinger unleashed a 96 mph two-seamer with that sidearm delivery and Bryant absolutely crushed it. If, that is, you consider a ball that traveled 411 feet with an exit velocity of 111 mph to be crushed. Here, see for yourself. And be careful not to blink.

Of course, Bryant went on to strike out against Cole Hamels in his next trip to the plate, which means one of two things. Either Chris Sale is bad or Tony Massarotti’s taeks are awful. Regardless, Kris Bryant is flippin’ awesome. Big, loopy swing and all.
