Injury Update: Joe Maddon Talks About Jason Heyward and His Status
Jason Heyward has been sidelined this week with a sore right wrist, which he reveled to the Cubs’ training staff this past Sunday. The initial indication from the Cubs was that Jason could be ready to return on Wednesday.
Earlier today (cubs.com), Joe Maddon mentioned that he could’ve used Jason in the game yesterday either defensively or as a base runner but he didn’t want him to hit, so he went with Ryan Kalish instead. It sounds like there could be another update later today about whether Jason could play tomorrow or not.
The Cubs have continued playing well in Jason’s absence, winning 2-of-3, only losing a tight extra inning game against the Braves. The Cubs aren’t in a hurry to rush Heyward back until they’re comfortable that he can go without any recurrence of the injury.
We’ll keep an eye on this and update you when we hear more.
